Bringing Product Teams Together

In Q3 2019, I joined Kitemaker as the Founding Product Designer, where I helped shape the product from the ground up. My primary focus was to create clarity and cohesion across the user experience, establishing a consistent design language, improving usability, and aligning design with product strategy.
Partnering closely with engineers and the founding team, I defined core workflows and ensured new features were not only functional but also intuitive and user-centric.

Onboarding

One of my first initiatives at Kitemaker was a complete redesign of the onboarding experience. The goal was to align with our newly defined brand identity, and provide a seamless process to new users. The updated designs supported users in importing data from tools as well as setup integration with third party apps.

Release Plans

This feature creation was driven by user feedback requesting a calendar view to better visualise upcoming releases within a set timeframe. Release plans offer multiple time-based views and provides detailed insights into each work item, including individual tasks, statuses, and assignees. The goal was to give teams a clear, holistic understanding of sprint progress and a quantitative view of their performance throughout the release cycle. By aligning closely with user needs, we delivered a tool that enhanced transparency, planning, and accountability for our users.

Updates

Users were overwhelmed by the volume of notifications—triggered by every event, such as mentions or task assignments. In many cases, multiple updates from the same task cluttered the experience, making it difficult for users to track what required their attention. To solve this, we first consolidated and grouped related updates to reduce noise. Then, we introduced a dedicated updates screen, where users could view all notifications in one place, organized by the relevant task. This improved focus, reduced cognitive load, and made it easier for users to manage their communications and respond efficiently.

Impact and effort

The Impact & Effort feature helped teams prioritise work items during weekly sprint planning. Based on user feedback, we introduced customisation options that allowed each team to define their own scales. Some preferred simple categories like S, M, L, while others opted for a more detailed point-based system. This flexibility supported diverse workflows and planning styles, enabling teams to evaluate and prioritize tasks in a way that best matched their internal processes.

Website Redesign

I led the redesign of Kitemaker’s marketing website to align with our updated branding and better communicate our value proposition. The new design featured refreshed visuals, a stronger emphasis on key product features, and highlighted current clients to build credibility and trust. The goal was to clearly convey what sets Kitemaker apart while driving engagement and conversions through a more polished and focused web presence.
